The Sunday School class meets during worship following the Children's Message.
Our Sunday School class with Miss Donna - grades Pre-K through grade 3 - have been learning about the Bible through a new program called “Simply Loved.” The students complete crafts and listen to the stories of the Bible through this program each Sunday. The members of the class in grades 4-5 have been working with Mr. John Mark and are following the same program but on a more advanced level. All youngsters will hold their Children’s Christmas Pageant on December 17th.
The pre-confirmation class meets in the conference room during worship following the Children's Message.
Our pre-teens have been going through a program called “Echo the Story.” Students are under the direction of Mrs. Simmons and have been learning about some of the famous women of the Bible like Deborah, Naomi and Ruth and will continue through Jesus’ birth into the month of December. Students remain in worship during the first Sunday of each month in order to partake in communion. In addition, students will assist the younger students in the elementary grades with their Christmas Pageant and any other fun activities that occur throughout the year.
The confirmation class is beginning a new program whereby students will be partnered with a mentor from the church - either a Deacon, an Elder, or a congregation member not on one of those boards - who will then meet with the students once a month at a convenient time established by both the student and the mentor. The mentors will discuss ways in which they actively particpate in the life of the church and serve as disciples of Christ. They will also encourage the students to solicit questions about their faith journey to see how they are all connected on the same spiritual mission - to serve under the discipleship of our Lord and give back to the community.
In addition, the students will meet with confirmation co-leaders, Pastor Erin and MaryAnn Simmons, once a month in the evening to discuss their faith journey throughout the year through various activities and Bible study. They will attend worship each Sunday and partake in communion on the first Sunday of the month as part of their understanding of Jesus Christ’s sarifice for our sins. Furthermore, they will engage in a group community service project to be determined once they meet in November for their session together as a group.
All students in grades 6-8 take part in youth group activities sponsored on a monthly basis. These activities take place at the chapel on Main Street, led by Pastor Erin and MaryAnn Simmons. Dates are determined during the month when students are available to meet.
Sunday School starts September 10.
